News broke last week that the IRS is extending the tax filing deadline to May 17, 2021. While that can be viewed by many as taxpayer friendly, there are many things the announcement does not address.
Does this extension apply to estimated tax payments? (Currently “No.”) Will the state of Indiana extend their filing deadline as well? (Currently “No.”) There are other questions we have so rather than guessing, assuming or merely waiting for additional guidance, we as a staff and firm have decided we are going to go all out to complete everyone’s returns by April 15, 2021. On April 16, we will resume normal business hours (M-F 8-5) and any returns not received by that time will most likely be extended on the May 17 date.
